Birth of Jesus (Luke Frontispiece)
Gold is used to indicate the divine. Between the viewer and the unseen infant, the animals form a protective barrier, and we see the coexistence of earthly, animal energy and spiritual energy, represented by the angels and the powerful light of God. Our presence in the incarnation is reflected in the shaft of polished gold.
Transfiguration
Moses stands to the right holding the book of law, and Elijah is situated to the left in his ragged prophet’s clothing. Christ remains central, but is marked by the clouded, indistinct form of his physical presence.
